Laura Buckley was praised by judges for her clear writing that makes an important point.

Ms Buckley, who is a locum and primary care pharmacist based in Hull, has been writing for C+D’s views section for over a year and also runs her own blog, Mum Does Drugs.

She scooped a national award from the MJA for her work, with the judges describing Ms Buckley as writing “both clearly and emotionally so that she can make an important point while also encouraging the reader to feel along with her”.

Judges also praised Ms Buckley for “pitching her pieces perfectly for her audience”.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the MJA awards ceremony took place virtually, and a recording is available to watch online.

“The award is for everyone in pharmacy”

Commenting on her win, Ms Buckley said she is “shocked to have won, given the fierce competition for the category”.

With her writing, Ms Buckley says she hopes to “raise awareness of key issues” and “spread the word about the importance of the pharmacy sector in healthcare”.

“I really hope to continue writing for this reason. The award isn't just for me, it is for everyone in pharmacy and I have a lot of people to thank for all the opportunities I've had to get to this point in my career,” she added.

Over the past year, Ms Buckley has written for C+D on a wide range of topics – from remote supervision to the provision of emergency hormonal contraception in pharmacies.
