Pharmacist pleads not guilty to causing death of teen by careless driving

A pharmacist has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of an 18-year-old by careless driving after a crash with the teenage motorcyclist near Brighton in the summer of 2022.

Pharmacist Jagjeet Gujral, 66, pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a teenager “by careless or inconsiderate driving” at Lewes Crown Court last month (October 24), Sussex Police told C+D.

Gujral, of Brighton Road in Hurstpierpoint, was charged with causing the death of 18-year-old Charles Chandler after a crash on Cuckfield Road, Haywards Heath, on August 30 2022, it said.

Gujral was driving a silver Volkswagen Polo while the teenager was riding a Honda motorcycle, police confirmed.

Chandler was taken from the scene to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but he died five days later on September 4, the force added.

Meanwhile, an Isle of Wight pharmacy crushed by a lorry was back issuing prescriptions “within half an hour” of the collision in August.

In May, a Kamsons Pharmacy branch was forced to relocate after a confused motorist crashed their car into its building when they mistook their accelerator for the brake.

And a Boots pharmacy in Liverpool was forced to temporarily close after a car crashed into its storefront in December.
