HRT prescription items soar 22% after PPC introduction

The number of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prescription items has rocketed up 22% in a year amid the introduction of a pre-payment certificate (PPC), new data has revealed.

New NHS Business Services Authority (NHS BSA) data has revealed that the number of HRT medication items prescribed in England hit 13.3 million in 2023/24 – up 21.5% from the 10.9m prescribed in 2022/23.
