GPhC ‘still working to resolve’ pharmacy registration issues

The pharmacy regulator has said that it is “still working” to tackle issues with its pharmacy registration renewal service.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) today (August 19) revealed that it is experiencing ongoing issues with its myGPhCpharmacy service.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), it said that it is “still working to resolve the issues affecting” the service, after announcing on Friday (August 16) that myGPhCpharmacy was “still unavailable for pharmacy registration renewals”.

“We are working to resolve the issues asap and apologise for any inconvenience,” it said on Friday.

The GPhC today added that it will provide a “further update” once the system is “available” again.

And it stressed that its main website and myGPhC service “continue to be available as usual”.

“Scheduled maintenance”

It came after the regulator conducted “scheduled maintenance” on the myGPhC system - which is also used for revalidation - on Thursday (August 15).

It said on the day that the service would be “unavailable” that morning between 8am and noon but the following morning, it revealed that it was “aware of issues with myGPhCpharmacy and [was] investigating this as a priority”.

The system was also plagued with issues in October, when the GPhC announced that it had extended the deadline for revalidation submissions following ongoing “technical issues” with its website.

The GPhC had previously admitted to experiencing “issues” with its website amid reports that pharmacists attempting to complete their revalidation could not access the correct portal.

Meanwhile, the regulator last week revealed that it has hired consultants and is conducting a survey to help it review “the revalidation process and framework”.

And a quarter of pharmacists polled by C+D last week said that the GPhC’s proposed accelerated one-year programme for internationally trained pharmacists is “unfair for the UK”.
