CCA chief executive Malcolm Harrison said that having Pharmacy2U join the CCA is "a natural fit”

The CCA today (October 17) said that the online pharmacy, which is the “UK’s largest” at over 1.6 million prescriptions a month to more than 750,000 patients, had become a member.

It added that Pharmacy2U is “strongly aligned with the CCA’s mission of enabling community pharmacy evolution” thanks to its “central ambition of supporting access to more convenient and sustainable NHS pharmacy services”.

And it said that Pharmacy2U is looking forward to working with the CCA and its broader membership on “delivering shared goals for the future of pharmacy”, backed by its “vision of a thriving pharmacy sector” that “effectively utilises the expertise of both digital-first and high street providers”.

“A natural fit”

CCA chief executive Malcolm Harrison said he was “delighted to welcome Pharmacy2U into the CCA”, which has “always embraced innovation and change”.

He added that since “several” CCA members already operate their own distance selling pharmacies (DSPs), “having the largest DSP in England join the CCA is a natural fit”.

Mr Harrison said that the CCA has “always been at the forefront of pharmacy evolution” and “[works] hard” to create an environment where its members can “operate with confidence”.

Pharmacy2U chief executive Kevin Heath added that it is a “huge pleasure” to announce the online pharmacy's CCA membership and that he is “confident” that it will now “be able to play an even greater role in ensuring the pharmacy sector is able to cope with – and even thrive against – the growing demands placed upon it”.

The CCA does a “commendable job” in representing multiple pharmacy organisations “of all shapes and sizes”, he said, adding that he is looking forward to sharing Pharmacy2U’s “insights as to how the pharmacy sector can deliver for patients now and in the future” with CCA members.

It comes after Pharmacy2U revealed earlier this month that it has snapped up Lloydspharmacy’s online prescription service LloydsDirect in a deal that combines two of the country’s highest-profile online pharmacy businesses.
