Speaking to C+D at the Pharmacy Show in Birmingham in October, locum pharmacist Paul Summerfield shared his thoughts about combining a degree in law with his career as a pharmacist.
Mr Summerfield initially quenched his thirst for legal knowledge by embarking upon law degrees, which eventually led him to establish the Pharmaceutical Defence – a company that offers legal advice to pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
However, that is not the only side hustle that Mr Summerfield is busy with at present. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Reading and sits on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s English Pharmacy board.

Chemist + Druggist pharmacy podcast · ‘Variety is the spice of life’: pharmacist Paul Summerfield on his career
This podcast was recorded before Health Education England announced last month that community pharmacists can apply for one of the 327 funded independent prescribing places for courses starting this month or in March.
Please note that this interview was recorded in the exhibition hall of the NEC conference centre, so there is background noise.
