Superdrug has trained more than 160 pharmacists to offer support, advice and treatment options for a range of skin conditions, a spokesperson told C+D yesterday (October 7).
Under the service, pharmacists will offer free walk-in skincare consultations, self-care advice and treatment for a range of skin conditions, including eczema and acne. Specially trained pharmacists will be able to supply certain prescription-only medicines, granting customers access to skincare treatment without having to visit a GP, Superdrug said in a statement published on October 4.
“Part of the service includes the use of a patient group direction (PGD) to provide private treatment options if clinically suitable,” the spokesperson told C+D.
The health and beauty retailer’s new initiative aims to make skincare and dermatology treatment more widely accessible by bringing its skin advice service to the high street.
Caris Newson, head of healthcare services at Superdrug, said she hoped the new service would “go some way in giving people an easy and convenient way to get professional help, advice or treatment for their skin.”
Superdrug said its venture into dermatology will make it easier for people to receive expert skin condition advice and treatment recommendations.
Superdrug will accompany the launch of its skincare service with an awareness and education campaign to help support those whose self-esteem is worryingly impacted by their skin condition.
