The NAWP, which was originally set to dissolve at the end of this year, announced earlier this month it will continue as part of the PDA – a change executive committee member Dr Christine Heading described as a “Doctor Who regeneration”.
“Our organisation [is] coming to a halt, but then regenerating in a new revitalised form with the same ethos but different characteristics,” she told C+D at the Pharmacy Show in Birmingham (October 7).
From January 1, the 114-year-old organisation will be a “semi-autonomous” network under the PDA, with annual membership costing £30 for non-PDA members and £10 for PDA working members.
Dr Heading said that men “won’t be barred in any shape or form” from participating in the organisation, although it will be of “particular interest” to women.
“By having this big pool of people we will be able to share our message,” she added.
